An English-born Australian pop singer
He was a teen pop idol from 1964 to 1979, and has since forged a career as an adult contemporary singer. His career has mostly been as a solo artist but he replaced Glenn Shorrock as lead singer of Little River Band during 1982–1985. In September 1986 his solo single, "You're the Voice" peaked at No. 1 on the Australian singles charts. The associated album, Whispering Jack, held the No. 1 position for a total of 25 weeks, and is the highest-selling album in Australian history. Both the single and the album had Top Ten success internationally including No. 1 in Sweden.
Domestically he has remained one of Australia's best-known performers with a career spanning over 40 years,[1] and he is the only Australian artist to have a number one record in five consecutive decades (echoing Sir Cliff Richard in the UK) with singles: "Sadie (The Cleaning Lady)" in 1967, "Raindrops Keep Fallin' on My Head" in 1969/1970, and "Age of Reason" in 1988; and albums: Age of Reason, Chain Reaction in 1990, Then Again... in 1993, Anthology 1: Greatest Hits 1986-1997 in 1997, 33⅓ in 2000 and The Last Time in 2002.
Farnham has been recognised by honours and awards including 1987 Australian of the Year, 1996 Order of Australia, and 19 Australian Recording Industry Association (ARIA) Awards including his 2003 induction into the Hall of Fame. From 1969 he was voted by TV Week readers as the 'King of Pop' for five consecutive years. Aside from his recording career, Farnham performed on stage with lead roles in Australian productions of Charlie Girl, Pippin and 1992's Jesus Christ Superstar. He starred in his own TV series and specials including It's Magic and Bobby Dazzler and as a guest on numerous other popular shows such as Countdown and Hey Hey It's Saturday.Australian rock historian, Ian McFarlane described him as "the most successful solo artist in the history of Australian rock and pop Farnham has retained an affable sense of humour and a simple, unpretentious 'everyman' charm which also makes him one of the most respected celebrities in Australian entertainment history."

Who We Are
When a child is diagnosed with a serious illness, the day-to-day joys of childhood take a back seat to the rigors of treatment and hospitalization. For more than 25 years, Starlight Children’s Foundation has been dedicated to improving the quality of life for children with chronic and life-threatening illnesses and life-altering injuries by providing entertainment, education and family activities that help them cope with the pain, fear and isolation of prolonged illness.
We understand what families go through when a child is sick, and how important it is to find relief from constant worry and isolation. Our programs have been proven to distract children from their pain, help them better understand and manage their illnesses, and connect families with others facing similar challenges so that no one feels alone.
Unlike any other charity, Starlight offers a comprehensive menu of outpatient, hospital-based and Web offerings that enable us to provide ongoing support for children and families — from diagnosis through the entire course of medical treatment. Programs include:
Family activities and outings that give families a chance to have fun together away from the hospital so they can relax, regroup and return home with a renewed sense of strength and hope. The events also forge important connections between families struggling with similar issues to combat feelings of isolation.
In-hospital entertainment technology that helps kids fill hours in hospitals or treatment centers with therapeutic fun; find distraction during long or painful medical procedures; access Starlight’s online educational programs and communities; and stay connected with the outside world and keep up with school work during extended hospitalizations.
Online communities and interactive websites that help seriously ill teens connect with each other and find tips and strategies for coping with their medical conditions.
In-hospital playrooms, kid-friendly treatment rooms and special events that help ease the loneliness, fear and boredom that accompany hospital stays.
Educational programming — delivered via online interactive games, ezines, webisodes, a comic book and websites — to help sick children understand common hospital procedures and manage illnesses and injuries such as cancer, sickle cell, cystic fibrosis, asthma, Crohn’s and colitis, severe burns and kidney disease.
Research studies have found that Starlight’s programs help reduce children’s pain while helping them to better deal with, understand and manage their illnesses. In addition, Starlight programs help the child, parents and siblings experience less depression, anxiety, pain and isolation and bond as a family.
The way we see it, while researchers look for cures and doctors work to restore a child's health, Starlight works to restore the entire family's spirits.
We invite you to be a part of the growing Starlight network of supporters who are making a difference in the lives of children and families suffering through childhood illness.

The National Breast Cancer Foundation (NBCF) is renowned for funding high quality research and supporting a generation of significant milestones in breast cancer knowledge.
There are two unique aspects to the funding of research by the NBCF:
In order to ensure integrity, accountability and transparency when awarding funds the NBCF uses a rigorous process of peer-review which considers:
The NBCF funds Doctoral Research Scholarships, Postdoctoral Fellowships, Career Development Awards and Kathleen Cuningham Research Grants. Novel ideas and Clinical Fellowships under consideration.
Since its inception in October 1994, the NBCF has allocated more than $55 million to breast cancer research, embracing Doctoral Scholarships, Postdoctoral Fellowships, Career Development Awards, Kathleen Cuningham Research Grants and Enabling Facilities (a tissue bank and cell bank) across Australia.
The NBCF has supported investigator-initiated research through a process of rigorous peer-review prior to disbursement of funds. The principle underpinning peer- review is that new knowledge - leading to improved prevention, detection and treatment of breast cancer – arises from the support of excellent research.
A further strength of the NBCF’s research grants program is that funds have been awarded to investigate every aspect of breast cancer. While laboratory-based research will direct us to new therapies and ultimately the cause of breast cancer equally important is the investigation of improved treatments; ways to support women; their careers and families throughout the breast cancer experience, understanding risk factors for breast cancer and how to maximise the delivery of health services.
The Prince's Trust is a youth charity that helps change young lives.
We give practical and financial support, developing key workplace skills such as confidence and motivation. We work with 14 to 30-year-olds who have struggled at school, have been in care, are long-term unemployed or have been in trouble with the law.
We have helped more than 600,000 young people since 1976 and support 100 more each working day. More than three in four young people we helped last year moved into work, education or training.
Around one in five young people in the UK are not in work, education or training. Youth unemployment costs the UK economy £10 million a day in lost productivity, while youth crime costs £1 billion every year.
The Prince's Trust helps change young lives.
We have four key target groups:
A wealth of research indicates that lower educational attainment and lack of formal qualifications make it much more difficult to secure full-time employment.
To help those with few or no qualifications to build skills, confidence and find employment, we provide personal development opportunities.
To assist young people trying to move into a job, training or education - but lacking the money to do so - we give Development Awards
5.4% of 15 year olds in England leave school with no qualifications and nearly 25% have fewer than five GCSEs.
To combat school-related challenges such as truancy, exclusions and poor performance, we run xl clubs within 300 schools across the UK.
Approximately 8,000 young people leave care more vulnerable than most. They are more likely to have no qualifications or low basic skills, or be unemployed or homeless.
According to a Home Office survey, 3.95% of the 16-25 population have offended.
The Prince's Trust does not run programmes exclusively for young offenders and ex-offenders, but we recognise the strength of our programmes to help them break the offending cycle and fulfil their aspirations.
